I’m looking to install solid hardwood flooring over a concrete slab. Is this a problem?
Date : 3/26/2009
Generally, yes, this is a problem. Florida’s high humidity levels make the installation process a difficult and dangerous one. We recommend that if you have a concrete slab, it is best to purchase hardwood flooring that is factory engineered.

Why is that superior to normal hardwood flooring?
Date : 3/26/2009
This allows the floor to be glued down directly to a dry, flat concrete slab. The top layer of the plank is the actual species of wood that you desire, pre-finished and stained at the factory. With a factory-finished floor you avoid the mess and fumes of sand and finish installation. Plus, the finish that comes from the factory is far superior to any finish applied on the jobsite. If you would like to know more about engineered hardwood, please contact our flooring installation experts at our flooring showroom, just outside of Bradenton, FL.

Can I sand an engineered floor?
Date : 3/26/2009
It depends on the floor purchased. Some engineered floors have the identical wear layer of a 3/4-inch solid floor. They can be sanded and even re-stained multiple times. In general, the thicker the wear layer, the more expensive the floor will cost.

How do I maintain a hardwood floor?
Date : 3/26/2009
Hardwood floor owners should acquire a wood-floor care kit that includes a dry microfiber mop head and a residue-free cleaner. Avoid using a wet mop at all costs! Water is the biggest threat to a hardwood floor, so try to avoid it if possible.

I’m interested in acquiring a laminate floor. What should I know?
Date : 3/26/2009
Laminate floors are versatile and durable that possess the appearance of hardwood flooring. They are made up of several layers of materials bonded together under high pressure. The top layers consist of a high-resolution image of hardwood flooring topped by an extremely hard clear coating. They come in planks that designed to “click” together and are “floated” over a moisture-barrier pad. For more information about laminate floors, call or e-mail one of our tile flooring experts in at our floor covering showroom, just north of Bradenton.

As long as the surface is smooth, flat, and dry, then there should not be a problem. Vinyl, tile, and wood are all acceptable surfaces, although we wouldn’t put laminate over your carpet!
